Huangdidian
Difficulty – 4 (out of 5) Duration – Full day
Huangdidian is a superb ridge traverse to the north of the sleepy town of Shiding. The hike begins with a difficult (tiring) climb up a lot of stairs, but don’t let that put you off. Once at the top, the real fun begins as we make our way across the ridge towards the west and east peaks of Huangdidian.
There are loads of fixed ropes, steep ladders and even the odd chain to help hikers up and down the numerous cliff faces. Occasionally, the ridge becomes exposed and offers fantastic views – making this a hike for those without a fear of heights!
Typical Itinerary
We start this one in the morning (not too early though!) eating lunch up on the ridge. After descending there’s a pleasant 2km walk along the road to get back to Shiding where drinks and snacks can be bought at the old street.
This trip can also be combined with a visit to nearby Shenkeng, the stinky tofu capital of the world which also has an impressive and more vibrant old street.
