*****WHAT WE WILL PROVIDE*****

• Transport from Chishang Train Station 池上 to the mountain and back (it’s up to you to get to the station in time)
• Permits and accommodation (2 nights in basic mountain cabins)
• Meals – dinner on Sunday, breakfast and dinner on Monday and breakfast on Tuesday
• Professional, native English speaking guide
• Full Insurance
• All entry fees
• Minimum of 5 people needed. If we don’t have at least 5 we’ll cancel the trip and return any payments
• Full refund if the trip is cancelled for other reasons (typhoons, extreme weather)
• Winter safety gear (crampons, helmets, ice-axes)

NOTE – this is a winter hike. You will be required to also carry crampons, an ice axe and helmet. We’ll provide all these but you must have space available in your pack. This hike will be harder than a normal Jiaming hike and could be -5C at the Xiangyang north peak. Bring warm layers. Anyone who is struggling or not confident will be asked to stay at the cabin. The leader will decide and the decision is final. Sometimes conditions change for the worse and it may not be possible to reach the peaks. Sometimes we can’t get permits and in that case we’ll give a full refund

An opportunity to go with Taiwan Adventures to Jiaming Lake in Taidong County .

This is an OVERNIGHT trip with 2 nights in rough, mountain cabins. We meet at Chishang Station in Taidong at 11am on Feb 1st. The bus can’t wait for anyone who is late so it’s up to you to be on time. We can’t give refunds to people who turn up after 11. You can take the morning express train from Taipei or arrive the night before and stay in Chishang.

Included: Private transportation from and to Chishang Station for our group; dinner 1st night, breakfast and dinner 2nd night at the cabin, breakfast on the 3rd day; Native English speaking guide, permits, and insurance. You need to bring your own lunch for the first and second day of hiking.

***PRICE***

If you’re a full time student or you’ve been on another overnight hike with us, the price is $11,900TD pp. If this is your first hike with us, the price is $12,300NTD pp. We’ll send you payment options after you sign up.

****ITINERARY****

D1 Feb 1st: Meet at Chishang Station at 11am. Drive to trailhead at Xiangyang and check in. Hike approx 2.5-3 hours to Xiangyang Cabin. Dinner. Sleep

Xiangyang is one of the nicest cabins in Taiwan. Included Dinner

D2 Feb 2nd: Early start for breakfast (approx 2.30) on the trail by 3.30 and out past the Mt Xiangyang trailhead. Arrive at Jiaming Cabin approx 9.30am. Leave extra gear, lunch and head out to Jiaming Lake. We usually summit Mt Sancha before descending down to Jiaming. Return to Jiaming Cabin for dinner. Included Breakfast, Dinner (you need to bring your own lunch)

D3 Feb 3rd: Early start for breakfast. 40-50min hike to Mt Xiangyang trailhead. Summit Mt Xiangyang for sunrise. Descend down to Xiangyang Cabin and on to the trailhead. Drive back to Chishang Station (approx arrival 1pm). From there it’s generally easy to get train tickets back to Taipei (so no need to book in advance in case we’re delayed). Included Breakfast

*****WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING*****

(We’ll give you another packing list after you sign up)

– At least a 40L backpack

– Pack cover

– Sturdy hiking boots (you will likely need to attach crampons, running shoes are no use)

– Fleece

– Raincoat (essential)

– Rain pants (essential)

– The ability to carry 2L of water

– Headlamp (essential)

– Toiletries and personal items

– Sunscreen

– Trousers (not jeans or other cotton)

Sleeping bags will be waiting at the cabins for you (you can bring your own if you want but the cost is the same).  Anyone who doesn’t have the right equipment won’t be allowed to start the hike.

Sign Up Jiaming

The payment is non-refundable and non-transferable unless we are unsuccessful in our permit application. Getting a permit can be difficult and we’ll do our best to secure one. However in the event that we are unsuccessful, we will refund payments or rearrange the trip for another date.
