Mt Qilai
Mt Qilai – GENERAL INFORMATION
Mt Qilai is one of Taiwan’s fabled mountains, feared and respected for the challenges it poses and the weather that swirls around its various summits. Rising to 3560m at the main peak and 3607m at the north, the trail is tough and the views are stunning making this climb a truly unforgettable experience.
GRADING AND FITNESS
Difficulty – 5 (out of 5) Duration – Generally 3D/2N
The route we follow at Mt Qilai generally involves 2 nights at a lower cabin and a long middle day taking in both Qilai North and Main Peaks. Other itineraries are available using different cabins/campgrounds.
The day begins before dawn and ends late afternoon so it’s a very demanding 10-12 hours of hiking and scrambling. There is quite a bit of exposure, especially when ascending Qilai North Peak via ropes and steep slabs.
