Nanhudashan
NANHUDASHAN – GENERAL INFORMATION
Nanhudashan 南湖⼤⼭ is the 8th highest of Taiwan’s top 100 peaks (Baiyue, 百岳). It is easily accessible from Taipei and, while very tough is considered a “non-technical” hike with only some exposure to cliffs/drop offs and a generally decent trail throughout. The final section to the peak is rocky with some scrambling needed.
The complete climb to the peak of Mt Nanhu (3742m) and 3 other Baiyue covers approx 50km split over 3 – 5 days. There are two separate trailheads.
GRADING AND FITNESS
Difficulty – 5 (out of 5) Duration – Generally 4D/3N
Hiking the Mt Nanhu typically involves 7-10 hours of hiking per day with a pack. There is some exposure to heights and high altitude. A very high level of fitness is required. This is not a hike that is suitable for beginners.
ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation is barrack style at 2 basic cabins on the mountain. Water, food and sleeping bags are provided. Camping is also possible in designated areas close to the cabins.
TRANSPORTATION
Private transportation is provided from anywhere in Taipei or the Taipei/Taoyuan Airport to the mountain. Pickups in other locations can be arranged, sometimes for a small extra fee. Vehicles are insured; Drivers are licensed; and traffic rules are obeyed.
FOOD
All the main meals are provided for the hike. Clients only need to bring their own snacks. If you have any special dietary requests, allergies, or needs, let us know and we’ll be happy to accommodate you.

LEADERS AND SAFETY
All of our leaders are Wilderness First Responder certified and carry first aid kits. They have all spent a lot of time hiking in Taiwan and are very experienced in the high mountains. All of our leaders are native speakers of English, but also speak Mandarin and are very knowledgeable about the local mountains, flora/fauna, and culture.
