Dali-Datong Village, Taroko Gorge – Jan 13-15, 2023

The villages of Dali and Datong are situated high in the mountains above the mouth of the Liwu River which runs through Taroko Gorge. Both villages are cut off from roads and the electricity grid and the aboriginal people who live up there grow their own food and hike supplies in. There are several small B&Bs with campsites making it a great place to stay overnight.

Friday Jan 13th – Meet in Taipei and drive to Nanao where we’ll stay in a B&B for the evening.
Saturday Jan 14th – We’ll be up early to head to Taroko Gorge (about 1 hours drive). The hike begins with steep stairs with excellent views of the mouth of the Liwu River. After a few hours we’ll arrive at the Dali Village From there it’s a relatively easy flat walk along the old forestry road to Datong Village where we’ll stay the night in a basic B&B.
Sunday Jan 15th – Today’s itinerary will depend on the group. There are two peaks that we can do. Both have great views of the Pacific Ocean. We’ll hopefully do one of them depending on everyone’s fitness/energy before heading back down and returning to Taipei.
