The Wuling Sixiu

The Wuling Sixiu – Dec 4-6 2020

The Wuling Sixiu is a group of 4 mountains. The ‘si’ meaning four and the ‘xiu’ meaning excellence. The mountains are, Kelayeshan, Taoshan, Chiyoushan and Pintianshan, and they can be hiked over 3 days in the Sheipa National Park. They make up the northeastern part of the Holy Ridge O-route.

This hike takes place at the beginning of snow season, so there’ll be a chance of some snow. Snow Mountain is undoubtedly at it’s most beautiful in the snow, however it does make the hike much tougher. Please consider your fitness before deciding to join.

Snow Mountain is Taiwan’s second highest mountain and one of the most beautiful. On the way to the peak, we’ll cross another one of Taiwan’s top 100 peaks, Snow Mountain East Peak, and pass through the beautiful Black Forest before climbing the alpine cirque to reach the main peak.

This hike takes place in the middle of snow season, so there’ll almost certainly be a lot of snow. Snow Mountain is undoubtedly at it’s most beautiful in the snow, however it does make the hike much tougher. Please consider your fitness before deciding to join.

Snow Mountain is Taiwan’s second highest mountain and one of the most beautiful. On the way to the peak, we’ll cross another one of Taiwan’s top 100 peaks, Snow Mountain East Peak, and pass through the beautiful Black Forest before climbing the alpine cirque to reach the main peak.

If you’re a full time student or you’ve been on another overnight hike with us, the price is $8,500NTD. If this is your first hike with us, the price is $9,500NTD. Please note that this includes rental for 10 point crampons.

****ITINERARY****
Friday (Mar 29th) – Meet at 7pm in Taipei at Wanlong MRT Station Exit 2, Please be on time! We’ll drive to Wuling Farm where we’ll hike up to the first cabin (around 1hr).

Saturday (Mar 30th) – Up around 8am, breakfast and then hike up to the 369 Cabin, passing by Snow Mountain’s East Peak. Sleep at the 369 Cabin.

Sunday (Mar 31st) – Up early (~2am) and head to the main peak for sunrise. Hike back down to Wuling Farm and then drive back to Taipei. We expect to be back around 8pm.

****** IMPORTANT! *******
This hike will be very cold. We expect nighttime temperatures to go below zero, and remain below zero as we make our summit on the Sunday. You will need cold weather clothes, and a good down feather sleeping bag (we have some available to rent, let us know if you need one).

*****WHAT WE WILL PROVIDE*****

– Transport from Taipei to the mountain
– Permits and accommodation
– Cooking equipment and all meals (except Saturday lunch)
– Maps and guide
– Insurance
– Crampons (10 pointers if required)

*****WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING*****

– At least a 40L backpack
– Pack cover
– Sturdy hiking boots that can accept a C1 crampon
– Fleece
– Raincoat
– Rain pants
– 3 pairs of socks
– Warm hat
– Gloves
– Sleeping bag (winter bag)
– The ability to carry 2L of water
– Headlamp (very important)
– Toiletries and personal items
– Sunscreen
– Hiking Pole (this is a requirement)
– Trousers (not jeans)

If you have trouble getting anything, let us know and we’ll see if we can help you out. Sleeping bags ($400 each) and hiking poles can be rented for a small additional fee. ($200 each).

Songluo Lake (camping) – OCT 20-21

Taiwan Adventures is leading another overnight hiking/camping trip! This hike is a great way to get out the city for the weekend and get into Taiwan’s great outdoors. Camping out (hopefully under the stars) by the lake is a real treat, and there are several trails to explore for those who still have energy after the tough hike up!

This OVERNIGHT camping trip will take place on Saturday October 20th to Sunday October 21st.

***ITINERARY***
We will meet at 7:00am on Saturday morning and take a van to the trailhead. From there we’ll hike the trail in to the lake, passing the water source before climbing and dropping down to the lake, where the trees open up and we have a large area to camp in.

No special technical abilities are required although the hike is fairly long (5-6 hours) and you’ll need to carry a backpack with food, sleeping bag and tent.

Dinner on Saturday evening, snacks and breakfast on Sunday will be provided. (Please bring your own lunch for Saturday)

***PRICE***
Cost: $6900. There’s a $500 discount if you’ve been on an overnight trip with us before or are a full time student.

Sign up for Dali-Datong Villages – Hiking in Taroko Gorge

This April we’ll be hiking to the villages of Dali and Datong in Taroko Gorge, Taiwan.  The villages both are situated high in the mountains above the mouth of the Liwu River which runs through Taroko Gorge. Both villages are cut off from roads and the electricity grid and the aboriginal people who live up there grow their own food and hike supplies in. There are several small B&Bs with campsites making it a great place to stay overnight.

***Itinerary***
Friday 20th – Meet in Taipei and take the train to Xincheng where we’ll stay in a small B&B.

Saturday 21st – We’ll be up early to head to Taroko Gorge to apply for permits and begin the hike near the national park HQ. The hike begins with steep stairs with excellent views of the mouth of the Liwu River. After a few hours we’ll arrive at the Dali Village From there it’s a relatively easy flat walk along the old forestry road to Datong Village where we’ll stay the night in a basic B&B.

Sunday 22nd – Today’s itinerary will depend on the group. There are two peaks that we can do. Both have great views of the Pacific Ocean. We’ll do one of them depending on everyone’s fitness/energy before heading back down and returning to Taipei.
